3rd Annual BnE Pick 'Em: Week 10

Folks, I'm back after a bye week, so let's recap where we stand after week 10 heading into the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry:
  1. Bubba with 277 points and 18-8
  2. Silver Britches with a respectable 260 and a 16-10 record
  3. Fresh Catch Shuffle just 1 point behind and 17-9
  4. AUMav's Picks with 255 points going 18-8
  5. Dawgsman81 with 255 and 18-8 points but just missing on the tie breaker
Overall:
  1. Silver Britches with 2185 points and a 162-67 record taking the lead
  2. AUMav's Picks with 2181 points and a 163-66 record
  3. WarriorDawg making the most of his points going 160-69 but managing 2168 points
  4. allyugadawg keeoing it real for the ladies racking up 2151 points with a 165-64
  5. BLACKOUT going 164-65 with 2132 points
Since most everyone did fairly well this week, BnE's Pick 'Em will recognize the scourge of the sports media world this week as our Bottom Feeder of the Week. As many of you now have heard, there have been several allegations leveled at Cam Newton. Everything from alleged cheating at Florida, to his pay-for-play scandal involving Kenny Rogers at Mississippi State, the sports news media have jumped on this bandwagon faster than a Florida fan lining up for a sale on jean shorts down at the Family Dollar. ESPN, Fox News, Sports Illustrated, etc. all have reported on the sources, speaking anonymously since they do not have permission to speak, and their allegations against Cam. Yet despite all the allegations, Cam remains eligible to play. Let's remember one thing: in this country, a person is innocent until proven guilty.

Now, it can all come back and all the allegations can be true. But the timing, ferocity and intensity at which these allegations keep coming out have lead the fans and sports haters alike to view it all as a bit of a comical spectacle. Not since Bill Clinton have sports fan taken to lampooning the allegations. Seriously, its as if the old Chuck Norris facts have morphed into the never-ending Allegations of Cam Newton. Here are a few of my favorites courtesy of FOP and some of my Auburn friends' posts:
  • Cam Newton dines and dashes at charity dinner events
  • Cam Newton was on the infamous grassy knoll in Dallas
  • Cam Newton gave Jessie Spano those caffeine pills
  • Cam Newton fired the rocket out of the Pacific. It was headed to your mom's house.
  • Cam Newton is funneling money to Somali Pirates
  • Cam Newton did in fact let the dogs out
  • Cam Newton didn't wash his hands in the bathroom causing the Cholera outbreak in Haiti
My favorite however comes from www.chadgibbs.com . He photo shopped an entire espn.com homepage to show the following:

Anyway, I find all this a tragic comedy. As much as I can laugh at all this, its still sad how the media has jumped on this just weeks after praising the turn around and the athletic ability of this young man. Let's not forget, Cam has done tremendous things at Auburn as a young man in just one year on the Plains. I look forward to seeing him in action again this Saturday in Auburn as he takes on the Dawgs. With Cam at the helm, I have a good feeling I'll be seeing my Tigers in Atlanta.

As for the rest of the weekend's games, let's see what else we have to look forward to...
  • Miami at Georgia Tech: Miami has proven to be the SUC of the ACC. Actually, the whole ACC has proven to be more neurotic in their play than SUC. Its a crap shoot but take Buzz
  • Utah at Notre Dame: Utes. Next!
  • Texas Tech at OU: If you think there might be another upset, think again. OU is at home and plays well in Normam. Take the Sooners over Tubs
  • OK State at Texas: Goose is dead...You gotta let him go. Seriously, the season is over for Texas and I cant see how the Horns pull it off against the Cowboys. Something is wrong in the state of Texas.
  • Oregon at Cal: LaMichael James could be in jail in Thailand and Oregon would still have enough speed to run. Don't pass on the Duck!
  • SUC at the Swamp: This is going to be an interesting match up but I have a feeling fate is still smiling on the Visor of the Old Ball Coach. Look for the defense of SUC to put enough pressure on Demps and Rainey to give Lattimore time to run the ball when the O is on the field. SUC wins a close one to secure a ticket to Atlanta.
  • A&M at Baylor: Toss a coin, its a game between two Texas teams.
  • Mississippi State at Bama: Dan Mullen has put together a very good team in Starkville. If you're a betting man, go out on a limb and pick the other Bulldogs
That's it for now. BulldawgJosh, our old friend BFR, and myself will be loading up and heading to Auburn on Saturday. If anyone else is headed down, leave me a message and you're always welcome at the tailgate.

Weekend Garbage

Because there is always something to complain about:

GREAT MOMENTS IN DEAD SILENCE

If you happened to not catch the UGA-Cocks game on television, then you missed out on a bloody assault that could only remotely be considered legitimate broadcasting. Things got started off right with absolute silence coming from Bob Davie and Mark Jones during kickoff, with a total of 60+ seconds of silence. This amount of broadcasting silence occurred at least one additional time in the broadcast.

Was this unprofessional? Potentially. Was it a technical glitch? Possible, except it occurred too many times in the game.

Was it actually a relief to just hear the sounds of the game, rather than a couple imbeciles talk about everything but what's actually happening on the field? MY GOD YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW EJACULATORY AMAZING IT WAS!

I CAN HAS CRAIG AND MIKE SAMMICH!?!

If you know me (which you probably don't), you know that I am no fan of Craig James.

This season, ESPN has decided to torture us by combining the raw and awesome powers of MIKE "Britney Spears" PATRICK and CRAIG JAMES into what has to be the most vicious mindfuck anyone could conjure up to torture college football fans.

They say evil doesn't have a face. They're sooooo wrong.

Hey, you know that Ron Franklin guy? Let's make sure he's on the 10:00a.m. coverage of the All Male Private College Your Grand-Dad Went To vs. The Program That Will Hopefully Still Exist By December.

You thought Thursday night with Jesse Palmer and ol' Craig were bad? Nope, you were wrong about that.

Someone at ESPN is just messing with all of us now, and to them, I'd have to say...touche. You have really upped the ante this time.

TALES OF DEFEAT

Michigan loses to Appy State? That's nothin'! Oklahoma gets beat by Boise and their 1937 Statute of Liberty Play? Such a defeat is for amateurs who know nothing about degrading losses.

To be a real professional in the art of public embarrassment, you have to lose to the smurf turf and a I-AA school in the same season, and you get the MVP if you do it in BACK TO BACK weeks!

Enter Virgina Tech, who recently handed over their man card after being shamed by James Madison University, a former I-AA champion.

Thank the Lawd! for that weak ass ACC, because the Hokey Pokey Dancers are looking at an 0-12 season and the kind of shame that never, ever goes away. Doesn't matter how hard you scrub, it ain't goin' nowhere!

THE APOCALYPSE IS UPON US, THE DAKOTAS ARE TAKING OVER

Last Week, North Dakota State (I-AA) defeats Kansas. This week, South Dakota defeats Minnesota. It was only in 2007 that Minnesota lost to North Dakota State. So for Minnesota, this is their second DAKOTA FAIL.

The Dakotas are on the rise and aren't taking your shit anymore, Big 12(?) and 11. They've beaten both of you and are setting their eyes on a 2 for 1 punch.

Mark your calendars now, on September 25 South Dakota State visits Nebraska for what can only be the Jackrabbits rise to the top of the Dakota hierarchy.

These things come in threes, so you better watch out Bo.

You're about to get invaded from the north, by South Dakota State. That's directionally confusing.

Scott Van Pelt Reaffirms His Greatness

Immediately after coverage of the Smurf Turf vs. Hokies games was over, Sportscenter comes on and obviously the Monday Night (College) Football game is the lead story.

So, what is the first thing Scott Van Pelt mentions? The score? Boise again notching a last minute victory? The, OMG BOIZE IS SOOO GUUUUD!!!? NATIONAL CHAMPS ON THE WAY!?!?!

No, he mentions the Dawgs thumpin' of Boise State in 2005.

Boo-yah.

Thank you SVP, for continuing to show your love for the Red and Black.

Man Crush? That's an understatement.

ESPN Highlights 3-D and Hatin' Gators

Despite the fact that the words "Florida" and "Awesome" would never be in the same sentence coming out of mouth of a real Georgia fan, the new commercial from ESPN including Hairy Dawg is still hilarious. Only if a negative connotation were attached to it, such as "Isn't it awesome how much Florida sucks at life," would this be truly realistic.

Mad props to Hairy Dawg for representin' and slamming that remote to the ground and not taking that shit. That is more than appropriate behavior, it is downright respectful! He could have easily punch the dude in the face or knocked over the TV as he marched out of that living room.

If you haven't watched ESPN in the last several weeks (I wouldn't blame you considering FAVREGATE 2010: WHAT WILL HE DO!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! dominating their coverage), here's the commerical:

BNE Pick 'Em Week 7

I'm going to keep it short and sweet this week. Week 7 sucked! With the exception of calgee's 8-3 record, it looks like everyone else made some dismal picks. While this was a great weekend of football overall, the picks sucked. I'm personally disappointed in my picks and results, not to mention Auburn's offense stalling against Kentucky and their quarterback by committee, including playing a true freshman!

After a dismal weekend of play, we have a shakeup in the Top 10:
1. GenStoopangle
2. Dutch
3. OneHairyDawg
4. DawgDai
5. Donald Eason & shelt320
7. dawgsman81
8. allyugadawg
9. ecdawg
10. yedidawg, bulldog91 & aumaverick

From the BNE staff:
1. aumaverick
2. bubba
3. BFR
4. earl
5. Streit
6. bulldawgjosh

Our Bottom Feeder of The Week remains mmike032, who managed to stutter his w-w-way to a 11-68 r-r-r-ecord and 52 points. This week mmike032, try stopping by our sponsor, Kleenex, at http://www.kleenex.com/ because you're going to be crying the rest of the season if you keep making picks this way...and I might be too if Auburn can't find their offense again.

This week's game will include our SEC games and feature Arkansas at Ole Miss, Tennessee vs. Bama, Oregon vs. Washington, Penn State vs. Meechigan, USF vs. Pitt, TCU vs. BYU, and our game of the week, Auburn vs. LSU. Good luck!

HERSCHEL WALKER ON ESPN FIRST TAKE

Jay Crawford just interviewed Herschel Walker on ESPN First Take about why he is going to start fighting MMA.

Herschel was wearing a god awful looking t-shirt that all MMA fighters wear.

Crawford asked Herschel if he is serious about dooing this. I know he has to be a douchebag sports host and ask such questions, but it's nearly an insult to even ask such a question. It's downrigt annoying.

This isn't Jose Canseco, this is HERSCHEL WALKER. He's serious about everything. Whether it's football, business ventures, or putting Steve Spurrier in his place, Herschel doesn't take anything lightly and is pretty damn successful at almost everything.

Dana White, UFC President, apparently isn't happy with a 47 year old Herschel Walker taking up the sport at his age.

I'm not an MMA fan, but I presume White's frustration is his attempts to legitimize this sport in the mainstream and not have it seen as a circus sideshow (besides a rival signing Herschel). I can understand that frustration when other celebrities and amateurs are jumping into the sport.

However, if you are going to have a well known person come into this sport without any prior relation to it, and wish for them to respect the sport and everyone in it, Herschel is the exact person you would want.

Quick Reaction to South Carolina's Victory over Ole Miss

In the 15 minutes since South Carolina defeated Ole Miss, I have heard the announcers on ESPN say repeatedly that South Carolina "almost beat Georgia" and that they are for real. The Dawgs did win that game, so if South Carolina is for real, shouldn't they be giving more credit to the Dawgs?
