This time next Friday I will be on my way to city on the St. John's river. And while many Bulldog fans make the annual trek to Jacksonville, this will be my first time going since 2004. It was my final year of college (5th year overall!) and we had a senior loaded team led by David Greene, Fred Gibson, and David Pollack. Florida was struggling and had already announced Ron Zook would not return as coach. It was my fourth consecutive trip to Jacksonville, and the Dawgs had lost everyone of them. But with two touchdowns from Leonard Pope and just enough defense, the Dawgs were able to hold on for a 31-24 victory.
I was finally content. Georgia had ended the misery that was Jacksonville for me. As I graduated from Georgia the next spring, I thought it would be a while before I returned to northern Florida in late October. I was right. Now, 7 years later, I prepare to go back to Jacksonville. The Dawgs have gone 1-5 in the last six years, but just as it was in 2004, it appears we are playing better football than the Gators. Can Coach Richt and the boys finally put together a complete game and make me 2 for 2 (2 for 5 overall)? We shall soon find out.
I HATE FLORIDA!
GO DAWGS!!!

We're Outta Here
Bubba, BFR, and I are headed to St. Simons where we shall partake in debauchery with minimal interference from Teblowme's followers, before heading on the par-tay bus Saturday.

HATE ORANGE. HATE BLUE. HATE GATORS.

WLOCP TO STAY IN JAX
Tim Tucker has reported that Damon Evans is recommending to the UGA Athletic Board to renew the WLOCP for 6 more years in Jacksonville (meaning the new contract will run through 2016).
Even though I expected this to happen, I'm relieved that we don't have to worry about moving the game for the near future.
Hopefully, the Dawgs will start consistently winning this game, and the talk about moving it to the Georgia Dome (absolutely awful idea in my opinion), or to campus will stop.

Bringing Back Traditions: Dominating in Jacksonville
Georgia and Florida first met on the gridiron in Jacksonville, Florida in 1915. Georgia dominated that day, winning 37-0. Georgia would go on to 15 of the first 19 games played on the banks of the St. Johns River. In recent years, we have seen a reversal of this trend, as the Gators have taken 14 of the last 17. However, few people fail to realize that before the Gators' recent string began in 1990, the Dawgs had won 15 of the previous 19. What does this all mean?
It means it is time for the Dawgs to get back to the tradition of winning in Jacksonville. In recent days, there has been a lot of talk about moving the game to Atlanta once every few years. While it would be nice for Georgia fans to have the shorter drive every once in a while, I do not think moving the game to Atlanta would change the outcome of this series. It has always been a series of domination and in recent years it has swung the Gators' way.
When the Dawgs won in 2007 (in a game that was not as nearly as close as the 42-30 score indicated), I thought the series was finally going to turn around. While the result of the 2008 game was horrible, it does not mean that the Gators will continue their recent dominance. The WLOCP is a rivalry again, thanks in part to Evil Richt and Trinton Sturdivant's dancing With the 2008 game passed, the Gators have now had a 19 year period of dominance, the same length as two Dawg dominated periods in the series history.
It's over, Urban.
Here's to hoping 2009 marks the beginning of a new 19 year period of Georgia dominance in Jacksonville.
