Public Figures Don't Make It Through This

This is not something I relish, and I'm not stating any personal opinions as to whether Damon should stay or go.

I'm just saying, from a PR perspective, I don't see how Damon Evans makes it through this, given the minor details already being disclosed from the police report.

Working in politics, I see a fair share of these incidents, in front of the media spotlight and behind the scenes. Some of them I've watch purely as a public observer, and some of them I have known the people involved and know the real truth (although I've never been apart of their issues and downfall).

There are times when people make it through these things (David Vitter, Mark Sanford, and John Ensign come to mind), and times when it becomes too much.

If you read this AJC article that gives just a few details of the incident report, this matter is becoming more damaging by the hour, and is inching to a point where there is no coming back. And, that's without actually reading everything in the police report, only what the AJC has chosen to discuss.

The one benefit that Damon does not have, unlike politicians, is a pseudo-autonomy where they must be persuaded to leave or walk out on their own accord. Damon is an employee of someone who will have to make a judgement call on whether this has reached the point of no return.

From that PR perspective, I think it is over for his tenure at UGA.

Overcoming this seems too much, and from the cases I've seen from the inside of the political realm, it really has the feeling of a spiraling downfall where there is no recovery, no matter how much redemption the person pledges (or even if they actually follow through with it).

Unfortunately in public relations, there are times when you cannot be sorry enough. It is just not possible.

Here's hoping I'm wrong...

NO BCS BOWL TODAY, REALLY?

I'm one of the most pro-bowl college football fans you will meet, but the scheduling this year has just become absolutely ridiculous.

It's January 2nd, and there are 4 bowls today that belong in December and one (the Cotton Bowl), that belongs on New Year's Day.

If they're going to continue to use some of these bowls as filler, I can accept it.

However, it is ridiculous that there isn't even a BCS bowl for me to watch tonight. Yet, I'm stuck with the 2nd pizza bowl this bowl season, and the Canada Bowl.

Riddle me this...

Auburn finished the season with a 7-5 record. They started the year 5-0, but went 2-5 down the stretch and lost 5 of their last 6 conference games. They lost their final two games to conference rivals (Georgia and Alabama) and somehow they are invited to play in a New Year's Day bowl.

How the hell does this happen? By Auburn getting an invite to the Outback Bowl, Tennessee will most likely fall down to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. That leaves the Dawgs, who beat Auburn, had an equal overall record (7-5), and a better conference record (4-4 to 3-5) to play in the Independence Bowl. (I won't even get into the BS that is South Carolina or Kentucky getting to go the Music City Bowl ahead of Georgia).

Instead of a rematch of the 2006 bowl game with a 9-3 Virginia Tech squad, we can now look forward to a game against a 6-6 Texas A&M team. The idea of spending New Year's Eve at the Georgia Dome with 40,000 of my closest friends appears to be gone. I guess the party at my house is on.

I have never had much hate for Auburn, but after this I may begin to share some of Kyle King's disdain for API.

Do You Hate Them Now?

For every Dawg fan that didn't hate Tech, and thought of them as a little brother to smack around once a year, do you hate them now?

I've always felt that Bubba was one of the few Georgia fans I knew that had a huge hatred from the piss and white from North Avenue. Most disliked or hated Tech, but did so in a relaxed manner. Spoiled by winning and short memories, too many people began to take this game for granted. We all have our reasons for hating one team or another, but our 7 year domination caused too much content.

I hope the above picture shows why you should hate Tech and their non-female, nerd filled student population.

Once again, their team tore apart the hedges after a victory in Sanford. If only I had a ladder to reach the bowl game banners Tech holds so dear, then maybe there would be something actually worth taking from Bobby Dodd.

Hate Tech. Never Stop, not for even one day, one minute, or one second.
