AJ Green to catch passes from ....

Just a few minutes ago, Mel Kiper Jr. came on Sportscenter to talk about the upcoming NFL Draft. His first topic was concerning AJ Green's stock rising. AJ Green was already considered to be a top 10 or potential top 5 pick, so how much higher can his stock go? There is a real chance that AJ Green may be the second overall pick in this year's NFL draft.

And who owns the second overall pick in this year's draft? The Denver Broncos. Denver, who spent its first pick in the 2010 draft on Demaryius Thomas (before later taking Tebow), were not considering taking a wide receiver until the developments in recent weeks. Denver's third leading receiver in 2010, Eddie Royal, is coming off hip surgery and will most likely miss all of spring camp (if there is no lockout). Thomas, who missed a lot of his rookie season due to injury, tore his Achilles' tendon on Wednesday and will be out for 6 to 8 months. That means the Broncos will enter spring camp (once again, if there is a spring camp) with only Brandon Lloyd and Jabar Gaffney as the only receivers who caught at least 10 passes last year (Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter had 37 and 28 receptions, respectively, from the running back position in 2010.)

If Denver is going to hand over the ship to Tim Tebow this fall, they are going to need a big receiver who can go get passes. AJ Green would certainly fit that role and he has already proven his ability to leap and catch passes in the thin air in Colorado:

While it would be fun to see AJ and Knowshon in the same huddle again, I don't know how I feel about AJ catching passes from Tebow. It just seems wrong. In three years, Georgia will have the top quarterback, running back, and wide receiver taken in their respective years. Just makes you sad to realize what that 2008 team could have been.

The Countdown 2010: 25 Days to Go

25: Zeke Bratkowski, Quarterback/Punter #12 (1951 – 1953)

To be the SEC’s all-time leader in interceptions, you have to be the type of player who can forget about mistakes quickly. Illinois native Edmund “Zeke” Bratkowski was just that type of player. One of the first great passing quarterbacks in SEC history, Bratkowski led the Bulldog offense from 1951 through 1953. Bratkowski’s high school coach, Paul Shelby, had also coached Georgia legend Charley Trippi and felt Bratkowski was a perfect for Wally Butts’ system. Turns out, he was right.

Bratkowski became the starting quarterback for the Dawgs during his sophomore season in 1951. Zeke put up some decent numbers that year, completing 116 of 248 passes for 1578 yards and 6 touchdowns. Unfortunately, he also threw for a Georgia and SEC single season record 29 interceptions. This included a record 8 in the season ending game against Georgia Tech. Despite the high number of interceptions, Bratkowski was recognized for his fine play by being named to the All-SEC second team. He would enjoy a much better season in 1952 as Georgia would improve its record from 5-6 to 7-4. He was named a first team All-American by the coaches association while throwing for 1824 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was also named first team All-SEC. In his senior season of 1953, Zeke Bratkowski was named the Georgia captain and once again made the All-SEC squad. He threw for 1461 yards and 6 touchdowns and also led the nation in punting average (42.6 yards per punt). He was once again named an All-American, this time by Focus Magazine.

Zeke Bratkowski ended his career at Georgia as the NCAA’s all-time leader in passing yardage, a crown he held until 1961. For his career, he threw for 4,836 yards (still good for 6th all-time at Georgia), 24 touchdowns, and an SEC record 68 interceptions. He twice led the SEC passing yardage (1952, 1953), led the nation in passing yardage (1952) and led the nation in punting (1953). His career total of 4,854 yards of offense was an SEC record until it was broken almost 30 years later by Herschel Walker. Bratkowski was drafted in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He played in the NFL for 14 seasons with the Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, and Los Angeles Rams. He later coached under Vince Lombardi and has once again found his way back into the spotlight in recent days. In 2010, Bratkowski was brought in to help Florida quarterback Tim Tebow transform his throwing motion prior to the NFL Draft.

SEC Players of the Year

During Saturday's broadcast of the Tennessee-Florida match up the announcers repeatedly made a big deal about the match up between Eric Berry and Tim Tebow. Berry, arguably the best defensive player in college football, and Tebow, a Heisman trophy winner, were named the SEC Defensive and Offensive Players of the Year in 2008, respectively. Verne and Gary, on a number of occasions, mentioned that this was the first time the defending offensive and defensive players of the year in the SEC had met the following season. That is quite an amazing fact, but also consider that in 2003, Georgia had the defending SEC offensive and defensive players of the year on the field for the same team.***

I simply hate this clown...

For Tebow to get this sort of attention, even if it is intended to poke fun at him, simply makes me ill. What a douche-bag...and the WWL won't let him disappear.
Minor League baseball teams will never cease or desist to come up with outrageous shenanigans and promotions.

Why Georgia Fans Should Root for Sam Bradford to Win the Heisman

With the departure of Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno, the Bulldogs do not figure to have a serious contender for the Heisman Trophy on their squad in 2009. Even if either of those players returned, I doubt they would have been able to wrestle the award away from the three players who were the finalists for the award last season - Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow, and Sam Bradford. Considering that two of those players already have a Heisman and the other could have easily won the award last season, I see no way that one of these three does not take home the trophy in New York come this December. While Georgia fans do not have one of their own to root for, they should all be rooting for Sam Bradford to become only the second player to win the Heisman Trophy.

Let me state, for the record, that I do not think Sam Bradford is necessarily better or more deserving to win the award over Tebow and McCoy. However, as the defending champion, there's evidence to support Georgia fans rooting for him as the best player. But my argument here is less about why Sam Bradford should win the Heisman and more about why Georgia fans should root against Tebow and McCoy.

Let's start with Tim Tebow. Do I really need to spell it out? HE PLAYS AT FLORIDA. I bleed Georgia red and I will always root against the Gators when given the choice. Some people will argue that it looks good for the SEC when a player from the conference wins the Heisman, but I could really care less. A second Tebow Heisman would mean another year of Florida playing well and would probably include another victory over the Dawgs in Jacksonville. For those reasons, Georgia fans should not root for Tim Tebow to win the Heisman this fall.

Next, we move on to Texas quarterback Colt McCoy. McCoy is entering his fourth year as the starting quarterback in Austin and the Longhorns expect to battle Bradford's Oklahoma Sooners for the Big XII Championship again this fall. I think McCoy is a fantastic player whose passing and running makes him a top candidate. The real reason Georgia fans should root against McCoy is that for him to win the Heisman, the 'Horns will most likely need to be a contender for the national title and thus they would need to finish with more than 10 wins on the season. Colt McCoy has won 32 games as the starting quarterback for Texas and if he wins more than 10 games this fall, he will become the winningest quarterback in NCAA history. As I pointed out in The Countdown, the current record for victories as a starter is held by former Georgia starter David Greene, and I do not want to see another Bulldog-held NCAA record fall.

With the cases against Tebow and McCoy, that leaves Bradford the lone man for me to root for this fall. Boomer Sooner, Bradford!

GO DAWGS!

Poppin' Fresh Admits To Snubbing Tebow

The Pillsbury Doughboy, commonly known as Poppin' Fresh, admitted early Friday morning that he stole Steve Spurrier's ballot and voted for Jevan Snead over Tim Tebow.

"I won't apologize for who I've voted for, only that I deceived and brought criticism on my dear friend, Steve Spurrier. I did what I thought was the right thing at the time. I consider this discussion over," Poppin' Fresh said.

According to reports, Poppin' Fresh has been a long time admirer and friend of Steve Spurrier, going back to when the two met in New York when Steve Spurrier won the Heisman Trophy. Poppin' Fresh had just become a household name the year before as the new spokesman for Pillsbury and attended the ceremony as a guest of honor.

Sources have said Poppin' Fresh was a devout gator fan for decades before switching to being a gamecocks fan when Spurrier became a head coach at the University of South Carolina. Poppin' Fresh has also followed Spurrier throughout his career, even purchasing a house in Durham, North Carolina when Spurrier was at Duke University.

"I wouldn't be totally shocked if Poppin' did this. He has been friends with Spurrier for so long, I think he'd do anything for him, including taking the fall for not voting for Tebow. It's sad to see, but there's also something good to say about an undying loyalty to a friend," said Herman Cain, a former vice-president at the Pillsbury Company.

"In fact, Poppin' Fresh may be Spurrier's only true friend left," Cain continued.

When asked about Poppin' Fresh's presence on campus in Columbia, South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia said, "Doughboy is always around during the football season. Sometimes him and coach will go to the basketball games and get drunk in the president's box. He's a cool guy, likes to party, but he's never too intrusive on the program."

Steve Spurrier is scheduled to speak at the annual SEC Media Days on Friday afternoon.

BREAKING NEWS: WE FOUND OUT WHO DIDN'T VOTE FOR TEBOW

Guess what? I'm lying. Why?

BECAUSE WHO CARES!

I can't take reading on so many blogs, newspaper websites, and even having to listen to Skip Bayless and other ESPN douchebags ponder who in the world didn't vote for TEBLOWME.

I'm also sick, as is Earl, of listening to Floriduh fans whine and cry about it, as if it is the end of the world. One measly ass vote and you would've thought one of these coaches commissioned a second bombing of Pearl Harbor since the fervor and anger over this is so constant.

I realize it's July, we're all bored, yet all pumped at the same time.

However, get over it.

Suck a nut, Tebow.

Hate Doesn't Have to End When the Season Does

My sentiments exactly...

In fact, Bubba probably heard me mumble this (or yell it) several times on November 1 of last year...

Seriously, tool.

Heisman Predictions

Let me preface my comments by saying that I think the Heisman Trophy is a worthless award and that it has nothing to do with actually recognizing the best player in the country.

I would also like to say that Graham Harrell's exclusion as a nominee just further proves how worthless this entire charade is. I'm not saying he should win it, but how can a guy with overall better numbers which are than those of the three nominees and an 11-1 record at least not get a nomination?

The Gators still haven't let us forget that Teblowme won the Heisman last year. If he wins it again, I think the earth itself will melt from the obnoxiousness that will spew like lava from the state of Florida.

I hope he drops that damn thing on his toe...

If I had a vote, I would give it to Colt McCoy. Despite my hatred for him, it is hard to deny how solid Teblowme is, and it is hard to argue he isn't the best player. As David Hale points out, this article by Chris Low gives Teblowme a great case for winning. I almost want to change my decision and give it to Teblowme based upon this (almost).

At the end of the day, I think McCoy will come in third behind Teblowme and Bradford. Many of these same people ranked Oklahoma above Texas, so I don't believe they will rank McCoy above Bradford. Of course, maybe I'm using too much logic here and assuming too much.

In any event, here are everyone's opinions on who they would vote for, and who they actually think will win.

Earl would vote for: McCoy
Earl thinks will win: Teblowme

Streit would vote for: Bradford
Streit thinks will win: Teblowme

BulldawgJosh would vote for: McCoy
BulldawgJosh thinks will win: Teblowme

Bubba would vote for: McCoy
Bubba thinks will win: Teblowme

BFR would vote for: McCoy
BFR thinks will win: "I f***ing hate Florida"

Congrats to Colt McCoy. You have been awarded the "Bubba 'N Earl 'Our Heisman Is Better Than The Real One' Trophy" for 2008.

The 2008 "Bubba 'N Earl 'Our Heisman Is Better Than The Real One' Trophy"

Unfortunately, none of us think you will win the real thing.

Damn you Florida. Damn you Teblowme.

From Alligator Army...

From mlmintampa on Alligator Army.com:

"No one wants to go to a Florida-Georgia game in a few years and have a Georgia sorority girl in a red cocktail dress and fake boobs tell you how Tebow never beat the Dogs."

Or I'd be okay with these girls telling me how Stafford always beat Tebow...

Georgia-Florida 2008: Final Thoughts

I have little else to say. This game has been analyzed over and over since last year. We keep hearing the same things and we know the big story lines:

1. Emotion will be high - Florida is still upset over the celebration. Hell, Urban wrote about it in his book and Tebow cried.

2. Florida is fast on offense. We know you have Percy Harvin and Jeff Demps and we know they are fast.

3. Stafford vs. Tebow - Who's the better quarterback?

4. Will either defense step up and make a play?

It doesn't get any bigger that this. The SEC East crown is on the line in Jacksonville.

Give 'em hell Dawgs and get the hell out of that god awful state. We'll leave the light on for you.

Will history repeat itself?

GO DAWGS!!!

These Days There's Dudes Gettin' Facials

As the WLOCP nears, we're reminding the Bulldawg Nation (BTW, Georgia started that "Nation" stuff) about the differences between Georgia and Florida.

A lot of country music stars, being from the South, like to bring up SEC football players on stage. I've seen this done before, but what could be more appropriate than Brad Paisley bringing Tim Tebow and his boyfriend up on stage to sing "I'm Still a Guy". Looks like Timmy is cheating on Tony Joiner these days. Notice who Paisley points to when he starts singing.

Now, I'm just sayin'...would you rather see that or this great Georgia band that's finally getting some legitimate play all over the country.

Zac Brown Band playing "Chicken Fried" at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta's Little 5...

Differences, man, differences...
