It's time to retire "Finish the Drill"

"Finish the Drill."

Coach Richt's personal mantra. It arrived in Athens with Coach Richt in 2001 and became a battle cry for the Georgia Bulldogs during their march to the SEC Championship in 2002. But now, almost ten years later, coaches still like the mention the phrase. I am just not quite sure if it has the same affect anymore.

Today, the reality is that Georgia is a talented but struggling football team who has continued to find it difficult to overcome challenges. In 2007, the Dawgs found their own "swagger", symbolized perfectly during the Blackout victory over Auburn. That team started the season with two early SEC losses, but reeled off victory after victory to close the season. If this Georgia team is going to recover, they need to find their own identity to rally around.

So, Dawg fans, any ideas for a new slogan?

I agree. FTD is old, tired and trite.

Reminds me of "Just say no".

How about "Block and Tackle".

Streit,

+1

Couldn't agree more.

If we're trying to recapture the magic of the second half of '07, how about "Superman dat ho"?

LOL "Block & Tackle"

"Finish The Drill" works for the kids when their bustin their asses out on the practice field...but as for the fans. I don't know...

"G.A.T.A", "Hunker Down" those are for the fans...

How about "Leave It On The Field", "Take No Prisoners", "Beware Of The Dawgs", or "GATA Like A Pack Of Wild Dawgs"

I'm sure there are much better ideas, but that's all I could think of right off the top...

GO DAWGS!!!

"No Excuses"

If not the mantra for the team then maybe just the coaches.

Remove The Doubt!

Rebuild The Legacy

You Cant Change the Past, but you can fix the Present, and affect the Future.

"Less prayer, more touchdowns."

I love License and Registration. Along those lines, how about Emerge From the Alley?

This likely doesn't qualify as a 3-4 word replacement mantra, but i'd love for Richt to use it somehow/somewhere (if he hasn't already).

"Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more you sweat, the luckier you get." Ray Kroc

With all CMR's talk; the last few years about how unlucky we were in regards to turnovers, injuries, etc. this seems apropos.

How about...

Abandon ship!
Women and children first!
Not in the face!
Uncle!
Vive la France!

On a more serious recommendation, I was always told to move with a sense of urgency in the military.

I think UGA needs to play with a sense of urgency.

Every player should move on/off the field urgently, get into their stance urgently, and attack the ball urgently. Complete every play urgently; whether its an 8 yard run, or a 12 yard loss, get up and get back to the line ready to move as quickly as possible.

The entire season hangs on every play, every down, and every yard. Play with a sense of urgency for success. Play with a sense of urgency for the team. Play with a sense of urgency to win the game.

AUMaverick said...

...or more simply, Play with urgency.

How about: "execute the play"
or "bring home the bone", "this dog bites", "beware of the bulldogs" "we got the hob-nail boots" "take it to the dog house", "this pack don't turn back" "the chain ain't on this bulldog", "we ain't nobodies bitches", "purebred and proud" "the view is the same, unless you're the lead dog"
Well, I tryed.

"Tackle the Ball Carrier"

"Block the Blitzing Defensive End"

"Catch the %^&$#& Ball"

"Stay out of Jail"

"Win the Game"

I could go on....
