The Dawgs are Dancing as a 10

Screw the experts! Georgia made the tournament with eases, securing a #10 seed in the East regional. And while getting a 10 seed is great, the Dawgs do have to take on a Washington team that just won the Pac-10 conference tournament.

I would love the see the Dawgs pick up a win Friday and take on the North Carolina Tar Heels for a shot at the sweet 16. Either way, getting the Dawgs back to the tournament in only his second season was quite an accomplishment for Coach Fox. I congratulate the team and wish them the best of luck in Charlotte on Friday.

GO DAWGS!!!

What's on My Mind - March15th

Let the Madness begin! The NCAA tournament kicks off this week's list of things that I'm thinking about.

- Bracket busting - My final four: Kansas, Kansas State, Duke, West Virginia. Yes, two teams from Kansas and no Kentucky. I'm going with the rest of the country on this one, my national championship pick is Kansas.

- The Bulldogs got screwed - The Mississippi State Bulldogs that is. 23 wins and .5 seconds away from an SEC tournament championship and somehow they get left out. Most people say they should have won more games or beat Kentucky, but based on that logic they should definitely be in over Florida. Florida only had 20 wins and lost to Mississippi State in the SEC tournament. How that gives them a better resume than MSU is beyond me.

- Spring practice kicks back off again. Why the hell did they have two days of practice and then go on Spring Break? Consider that some of the players (hmm, hmm, Mettenberger) spent their spring break boozing it up, what did they really learn in those two days before the break.

- The QB competition will once again be the focus. With Mett out of the race, Murray and Gray will duke it out the next few weeks. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Murray will win the job.

- G -Day is just a few weeks away. The Masters is great and all, but I'll be in Athens. I can watch golf on Sunday.

Could this be the best sports week of 2009?

Spring is in the air (despite the temperature outside today) and that means we are in the middle of the best sports week of the year. It doesn't get much better than this:

Major League Baseball Opening Day

The Braves helped usher in the 2009 season by beating the Phillies on Sunday night. New ace Derek Lowe was masterful and homeruns by Brian McCann, Jeff Francoeur, and Jordan Schafer helped the Braves to a 4-1 victory. I look forward to some games at Turner Field soon.

The Final Four Championship Game

The end of March Madness culminated in the National Championship game last night. The upstart Spartans of Michigan State were no match for the star-laden North Carolina Tar Heels. The Heels victory cost me the pool I was in (stupid Louisville!).

The Masters

For one week each spring, the state of Georgia welcomes the world to the finest golf course on the planet. There will be plenty of drama this weekend, as we will see if Tiger Woods is truly back from injury or if Padrig Harrington or Phil Mickelson can continue their recent success.

G Day

While the regular football season is still four months away, we get a chance to head back to Athens, set up a tailgate, and watch a little spring football. An added bonus this year: If it rains, we can stay home and watch the whole thing on ESPN.

Whether you love basketball, football, baseball, or golf, the first week of April 2009 is a great one. Enjoy it!

Who is going to cut down the nets this year?

Let the Madness begin!

The NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Tournament kicks off today and we here at Bubba N' Earl have filled out our brackets. Here's a look at our picks for the Final Four, the Championship Game, and who we think will take home the trophy.

Bubba's Picks:
Final Four: Louisville, Missouri, UCLA, UNC
Championship Game: Louisville vs. UNC
Champion: Louisville
(Side note: Bubba would also like to include his Final Four picks for the NIT: Davidson, UAB, Florida, and Virginia Tech - These were made before UAB lost its opening round game)

Earl's Picks:
Final Four: Kansas, Memphis, Villanova, North Carolina
Championship Game: Memphis vs. North Carolina
Champion: Memphis

Bulldawg Josh's Picks:
Final Four : Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse, Memphis
Championship Game : Louisville vs. Pitt
Champion : Louisville

Streit's Picks:
Final Four: Louisville, Memphis, Villanova, North Carolina
Championship Game: Louisville vs. North Carolina
Champion: Louisville

BFR's Picks
Final Four: Louisville, Memphis, Pitt, North Carolina
Championship Game: North Carolina vs. Memphis
Champion: North Carolina
(Disclaimer: The real world keeps calling on BFR so his picks are based on 4 and 1/3 minutes of actual bracketology consideration and a full season of ignoring college basketball (with the exciting exception of Georgia's unexpected first conference win of the season over the Hated Gators of Gainesville)

The Bubba N' Earl Sittin' on the 50 pick for the 2009 NCAA Men's Basketball Champion is Louisville.
