BNE Pick 'Em Week 12

Well, I'm back after a week off to bring you the ups and downs for the BNE Pick 'Em. Was it me, or was there not a lot going on in football this weekend?

First up, the most exciting game of the weekend had to be LSU vs. Ole Miss. I mean seriously, what didn't this game have? Defense, offense, special teams, heroes, zeros, and surprises galore. I have to nominate Jordan Jefferson and the LSU coaching staff for the Boneheads of the Year award after the final 4 minutes of the game. After a recovered onside kick, going for it all on 4th and 26, completing a hail mary pass just 7 yards short of the goal line with 1 second left, what does LSU do? Rush on their kicking unit all ready to go on the sideline? Try a gutsy dump pass into the end zone? The ol' Statue of Liberty trickeration? No, no my friend, Les and Jefferson are much too crafty for anything so simple. They decide that spiking the ball will fool everyone and leave them with exactly one second to run a...oh, wait...yeah...1-1 leaves me with...OH CRAP!

D'oh!

Almost as surprising as the game was the fact that most everyone picked that game correctly! The only other truly exciting game was Oregon and Arizona going down to the wire in OT, with the Ducks setting up a defacto Pac-10 championship game this weekend in the Civil War with Oregon State. I keep telling you, the Ducks are for real.

Jeremiah Masoli ain't pretty, but he makes sure the Ducks win

Pretty much everything besides these two games was kind of a let down from the rest of the season. Bama and Florida bullied two weaker schools in Chattanooga and FIU respectively. Tennessee failed to cover the spread...again! Meechigan lost like everyone expected and Arkansas kept the fireworks going with a win over Mississippi State. But, the biggest let down was the Kentucky vs. UGA game...

Penalties + turnovers + bad coaching = 6-5

So with the unpleasantness over with, let's see where we stand going into rivalry weekend:

1. shelt320 & dawgsman81
3. Dutch
4. DawgDai
5. yedidawg
6. bulldog91
7. Gen. Stoopangle
8. BFR
9. OneHairyDawg
10. Donald Eason

From the BNE Staff:
1. BFR
2. Earl
3. aumaverick
4. bubba
5. Streit
6. bulldawgjosh

And now for our Bottom Feeder of the Week, sponsored by www.test-cram.com
It looks as though someone only recently joined our Pick 'Em judging by his 0-10 record and 0 points. So ruling that out, it looks like our old pal mmike032 is still sitting fat, dumb and happy at the bottom of the feeding trough. 41-91 and 236 overall, but tied for #5 this week (along with 24 others).
mmike032, keep at it and you just might climb out in time for the end of the season. I suggest some of the studying techniques from our sponsor, www.test-cram.com for tips on how to bone up on this weekend's matchups. Tips like studying, having a plan, organizing, knowing who is actually playing and remembering to enter your picks. When all else fails though, there's always adderall.

So this is it for the regular season. Its rivalry weekend! Florida vs. FSU, UNC vs. NC State, Texas vs. Texas A&M, UGA vs. GaTech, and of course the Iron Bowl between Bama and Auburn. Hate your brother, hate your neighbor, heck you might even hate your wife this week! Whatever you do, whoever you hate, remember its only for one day...every other day is just plain disgust.

BNE Pick 'EM Week 12

While I am still taking a break from posts this week, I did want to remind everyone that your picks are due today. I will be back on Monday with a full re-cap of this weekend's actions.

BNE Pick 'Em Week 10

It was a great weekend for college football, and even better because I finally got back to making good picks! But seriously, has this not been a great season of Pick 'Em for college football? Each weekend so far has provided numerous opportunities to follow along as you watch your games and root for your picks. I hope that you have had as much fun so far this season, and I'm sure you can't wait for bowl season to begin.

While Oregon proved to be the biggest let down overall from college football, it was Ohio State proving to be the biggest upset to most everyone in the Pick 'Em. 83% of you took the bait and forgot how good a team Ohio State is, at least in Big Ten play, as they put a beat down on Penn State 24-7. In addition, 69% of you forgot that Oklahoma doesn't have Sam Bradford, as Nebraska held on to beat the Sooners 10-3. Don't forget folks, its not just about the W, its also about the point spread. Case in point, Florida: their defense is good, but their offense is even more shaky than Alabama. The Gators managed a tough win against Vandy 27-3 but failed to cover the 33 point spread.

With the exceptions noted above, everyone else seemed to have the swing of things as everyone made the easy choice in SEC homecoming games. LSU had a tough loss to Bama after losing two starters, while SUC was picked apart, wing by wing, by the Razorbacks, but everyone made the right choice in these two games.

Air Force cruised to a win over Army in a very touching game especially in light of the events at Ft. Hood. I know some of you questioned why I picked two academy games this season, but if you don't realize how much our service men and women mean to this country, then you better take some time and think about all that is around you. Everything we have today has come to us because of the sacrifice by our men and women in uniform. The next time you see a soldier, airmen, seamen or Marine, just stop and say thank you. Believe me, we owe them at least that much.

So, with this quick week covered, let's see where we stand...

Standings overall from through week 10:
1. Dutch and shelt320 (Congratulations on beating out Gen.Stoopangle for #1)
3. DawgDai
4. Gen.Stoopangle (so you are mortal afterall)
5. allyugadawg
6. bulldog91
7. dawgsman81 and DonaldEason
9. BFR
10. ecdawg

From the BNE Staff:
1. BFR
2. earl
3. bubba
4. aumaverick
5. Streit
6. bulldawgjosh

The Bottom Feeder of the Week is brought to you by www.despair.com.
mmike032 has been our consistent BFW for the Pick 'Em this year, going six straight weeks at the bottom of the pool. Remember mmike032, consistency is only a virtue if you're not a screw up, and its only a short trip from riding the waves of change to being torn apart by the jaws of defeat.

Next week's matchups will feature...who cares, its the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry between Auburn and UGA. Auburn leads the DSOR 53-51-8. This year's rivalry will be played in Athens, with both teams coming off large victories over FCS opponents and trying to earn wins for a better bowl berth...actually, UGA is still hoping for a win to get a bowl game. I wonder if Georgia will come out with silver helmets, black jerseys and red britches to spark the team to a win over Auburn...maybe not. Good luck!

BNE Pick 'Em Week 7

I'm going to keep it short and sweet this week. Week 7 sucked! With the exception of calgee's 8-3 record, it looks like everyone else made some dismal picks. While this was a great weekend of football overall, the picks sucked. I'm personally disappointed in my picks and results, not to mention Auburn's offense stalling against Kentucky and their quarterback by committee, including playing a true freshman!

After a dismal weekend of play, we have a shakeup in the Top 10:
1. GenStoopangle
2. Dutch
3. OneHairyDawg
4. DawgDai
5. Donald Eason & shelt320
7. dawgsman81
8. allyugadawg
9. ecdawg
10. yedidawg, bulldog91 & aumaverick

From the BNE staff:
1. aumaverick
2. bubba
3. BFR
4. earl
5. Streit
6. bulldawgjosh

Our Bottom Feeder of The Week remains mmike032, who managed to stutter his w-w-way to a 11-68 r-r-r-ecord and 52 points. This week mmike032, try stopping by our sponsor, Kleenex, at http://www.kleenex.com/ because you're going to be crying the rest of the season if you keep making picks this way...and I might be too if Auburn can't find their offense again.

This week's game will include our SEC games and feature Arkansas at Ole Miss, Tennessee vs. Bama, Oregon vs. Washington, Penn State vs. Meechigan, USF vs. Pitt, TCU vs. BYU, and our game of the week, Auburn vs. LSU. Good luck!

Famous Pep Talks & Week 7 Picks

In watching the losses to both Georgia and Auburn last weekend, I wondered to myself, "what would I be saying to those boys in the locker room at halftime?". In light of these two dismal losses, I thought about the famous pep talks & quotes from movies in relation to what I would want to say, to Tiger and Dawg alike, during halftime should either end up where they were last weekend. Let's hope UGA can find themselves against Vandy and Auburn can stage a comeback against Kentucky. Here's what I came up with, changed to fit football where appropriate...

I love the smell of football in the morning...smells like, victory. But you know what, I don't smell it now!

Men, all this stuff you've heard about Auburn/UGA not wanting to fight, wanting to stay out of the game, is a lot of horse dung. Tigers/Dawgs traditionally love to fight. All real Auburn/UGA fans love the sting of battle. When you were kids, you all admired the champion marble shooter, the fastest runner, big league ball players, the toughest boxers. Tigers/Dawgs love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Auburn/UGA plays to win all the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That's why Auburn/UGA should not lose a game... because the very thought of losing is hateful to our fans.

I know you think you're tired, that you hurt. Pain is your friend, your ally, it will tell you when you are seriously injured, it will keep you awake and angry, and remind you to finish the job and get the hell home. But you know the best thing about pain? It lets you know you're not dead yet!

Look at you...You're 5 foot nothin', 100 and nothin', and you have barely a speck of athletic ability. And you hung in there with the best college football players in the land for 2 quarters. In this life, you don't have to prove nothin' to nobody but yourself.

Now I'm going to tell you something I've kept to myself for years. None of you ever knew George Gipp. He was long before your time, but you all know what a tradition he is at Auburn/UGA. And the last thing he said to me, "Rock," he said, "sometime when the team is up against it and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to go out there with all they've got and win just one for the Gipper. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock," he said, "but I'll know about it and I'll be happy."

So here's what we're going to do. We are advancing constantly and we're not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy. We're going to hold onto him by the nose and we're going to kick him in the [expletive deleted]. We're going to kick the [expletive deleted] out of him all the time and we're gonna go through him like [expletive deleted] through a goose.

We're gonna go inside, we're gonna go outside, inside and outside. We're gonna get 'em on the run boys and once we get 'em on the run we're gonna keep 'em on the run. And then we're gonna go go go go go go and we're not gonna stop til we get across that goalline. This is a team they say is... is good, well I think we're better than them. They can't lick us, so what do you say men?

wrong Rudy?

BNE Pick 'Em Week 6

Week 6 proves that the season is shaping up to be everything that a college football fan could want. We've seen another weekend of close games, near misses, upsets and blowouts, and everyone managed at least 3 correct picks. So without further delay, here we go...

I hate to say it, but Bama looks like the best team in the SEC after shutting down the over-hyped Jevan Snead and Ole Miss 22-3. In another blowout, VaTech is proving that week 1's loss to Bama was a lot closer than it appeared. VaTech scored early and shut out BC for three straight quarters of play. If UTx falls to OU this weekend, and the stars align, we could see a rematch of VaTech and Bama in the national championship.

VaTech is rolling along...

...Ole Miss is disappointing

In our close games, Iowa narrowly squeaked by Meechigan 30-28. SUC managed another ugly win, beating UK 28-26 while GaTech also held off FSU in a game full of offensive fireworks 49-44. In overtime, Army upset Vanderbilt 16-13? Rounding out the cliffhangers, Tebow came back just in time to lead Florida to a 13-3 victory against LSU in Baton Rouge.

Finally, we saw signs of weakness from our other matchups. First off, Auburn lost plain and simple to an Arkansas team with a great passing game. Arkansas fired off 27 points, shocking the Tigers at halftime 27-3. After a late rally by the Tigers in the 3rd, Arkansas continued to cruise to a final 44-23 victory and 495 yards of total offense. Also, Jonathan Crompton & Tennessee had a career night against the Dawgs, throwing 20/27 for 310 yards & 4 touchdowns in a 45-19 romp of UGA. There are three things to say about the Dagws after this game: 1) Kudos to Brandon Boykin for trying to spark the team after his 100 yard kick-off return, 2) kudos to Bacarri Rambo for his pick 6 and having a kick-ass name, 3) its finally time to start considering that Willie Martinez needs to go.

Run over..

...and thrown out

Let's take a look at the standings overall through week 6:
1. Gen. Stoopangle (welcome back to #1)
2. OneHairyDawg
3. aumaverick
4. dawgsman81
5. Dutch
6. ecdawg & DawgDai
8. DonaldEason
9. JeremyRoyAdams
10. Woman...Do Not accost me while I am drinking!

From the BNE staff:
1. aumaverick
2. bubba (moving up in the world)
3. BFR
4. Earl
5. Streit
6.
bulldawgjosh (hanging on life support at #50)

And now for our Bottom Feeder of the Week sponsored by the brothers of Delta Tau Chi fraternity at Faber College and their favorite site to scope out date night drinks, http://www.bumwine.com/ ...

Joining the pool this week is mmike032, who reached an all-time low with a record of 8-60, 45 total points, a GPA of ZERO POINT ZERO and managed to commit over two dozen acts of perversion so profound & disgusting, that decorum prevents listing them here…ok I made those last two up. But, seriously mmike032, after 7 years of college people usually know something about football…or at least become doctors. In this type of situation, my advice to you is to start drinking heavily. Try visiting our sponsor at http://www.bumwine.com/ and check out their selection of fine wines. BNE & Delta Tau Chi recommends Cisco for the quickest and easiest cure for a dismal weekend of picks.

As always, we'll have our SEC matchups in addition to two undefeated teams in Cincinnati vs. South Florida, the classic Red River Shootout with OU and UT, the Hokies of VaTech at GaTech, and Hollywood vs. Rudy. Good luck!

BNE Pick 'Em Week 5

Once again, it was an exciting weekend for college football and there was a lot to see this week with a couple of upsets and overtime games. UGA, Air Force and Meechigan fell in tough battles during close games, Miami pulled off a miraculous win against OU, and USC trounced Cal. It looks like everyone did a good job this week with their picks.

Here's the quick and dirty standings overall after week 5:

1. OneHairyDawg (our new #1)

2. Gen. Stoopangle

3. DawgDai

4. Donald Eason

5. bcdawg97 & aumaverick

7. dawgsman81

8. ecdawg

9. yedidawg

10. allyugadawg

From the BNE staff...

1. aumaverick

2. BFR

3. bubba

4. earl

5. Streit

6. bulldawgjosh

And now for our Bottom Feeder of the Week, sponsored by www.noclue.com "Helping you find what you need". Our newest member to the bottom feeding pool is diangel with a 6-51 record and only 37 total points showing that he/she truly has no clue. Its a long climb to the top and OneHairyDawg's 234 points. I'm going to suggest stopping by our sponsor, www.noclue.com to find some help for your picks this week along with some climbing gear for that long trek to the top.

This week's matchups will feature a sampling of games from the ACC (BC vs. VaTech), the Big East (WV vs. Syracuse), Big 10 (Wisconsin vs. Ohio State), Big 12 (OK St. vs. Texas A&M), Independent (Vandy vs. Army) and of course our SEC matchups. Look for UGA (3-2) to rebound from a tough loss to LSU (5-0) and Auburn (5-0) to keep the high-flying Razorbacks (2-2) in check. Good luck!

Chris Todd & Onterio McCalebb have the Tigers running to a 5-0 start. Will it hold?

BNE Pick 'Em Week 4

Well, where do we begin? This was just an awful week for picks, with the theme for picks being hosed, as in we all got hosed. Most everyone in the pool was either .500 or below, with only 4 people managing a winning record for the week. Everything was upside down in college football, with blowouts turning into nail biters, and "gimmes" turning into embarrassments.

First up from out matchups this week, Ohio vs. Tennessee. Once again Kiffin managed to embarrass himself by playing down to Ohio and squeaking out a win after giving Florida fits last week. Another squeaker this weekend was Arizona vs. UGA. What happened here Dawgs? I thought UGA found their offense last week but instead they end up winning on a last second field goal. I hate to say it, but UGA has to get back to running and learn ball control or LSU will chew the Dawgs up next week.

Jarrell Holman taking one the other way.

However, the implosion of the week goes to Ole Miss and Jevan Snead. The Sports Illustrated curse aside, I'm glad Ole Miss lost early so we wouldn't have to hear the hype machine the rest of the season. This team should not have been ranked as high as 4 and I don't care how much talent they have. In addition to this let down, Oregon absolutely slapped Cal in the face and sent them out of the top 10 (along with PSU...WOW, again to Iowa??). Just about everyone got hosed on this one, as Oregon managed the game extremely well with a balanced run & passing game, and sticking Jahvid Best to only 55 yards.

Not a Heisman performance.

In other games, Beamer Ball managed to hold the Canes in check in an rainy game in Blacksburg, and Georgia Tech surprised a lot of folks by changing their defensive scheme, allowing only 150 yards of total offense by UNC. Michigan and LSU both managed to pull out close wins, while Florida swamped Kentucky even without Tim Tebow. And finally, Auburn posted another 500+ yard game, beating Ball State (but failing to beat the spread), with Chris Todd throwing 5 touch downs on 287 yards. That's 11 touchdowns for the season with over 1,000 yards.

WAR EAGLE!

Now let's get down to our overall standings...

1. Gen. Stoopangle

2. OneHairyDawg

3. Donald Eason

4. Dutch

5. dave1528 & aumaverick

7. dawgsman81

8. Woman...Do Not accost me while I am drinking! & bcdawg97

10. DawgDai

From our BNE staff...

1. aumaverick

2. BFR

3. bubba

4. earl

5. Streit

6. bulldawgjosh (really? 2-10?)

And, now for our bottom feeder of the week, sponsored by www.flip-coin.com . I am proud to introduce this week's new bottom feeder, Tankdawg to our pool. With an overall record of 3-44 and a measly 13 points, Tankdawg is displaying the kind of skill and smarts it takes to play in the Sunbelt. Even the Magic Eight Ball had a better record last week. I suggest flipping a coin for your picks next week...maybe visit our sponsor, www.flip-coin.com for some help.

Tune in this week for our matchups and submit your picks. We will have our usual great matchups with a special salute honoring our armed forces with the Air Force vs. Navy game. This is a classic game featuring two of the finest military academies, which should stir the fires of patriotism in every true blue-blooded American. GO AIR FORCE! BEAT NAVY!

BNE Pick'Em Week 3

I don't know about anyone else, but I am having a outstanding time with the pick'em so far this year. This season has featured some outstanding matchups, complete with close games, upsets and resurrections which makes the Pick'Em that much more fun!

First off, the Canes are for real this year. After watching the U and FSU, I was skeptical (and looks like most of you were too), but after the Canes squashed the Jackets I realized this is one fast team with a nasty swarming defense. Keep an eye out for these guys when they travel to Blacksburg. And speaking of Blacksburg...Beamer Ball managed a very close win 16-15 over a resurgent Nebraska. Give Bo Pelini one more year and Nebraska may just be back in the national spotlight.

In another close game, we all got hosed by picking the SmurfCats of Kentucky who managed a come from behind win over Louisville to win the Commonwealth in a close one. Notre Dame managed to win despite their valiant efforts of doing everything wrong. Notre Dame has compiled almost 300 yards of penalties in 3 games, including almost 100 yards this weekend. It looks like they are really trying to get Weis fired.

Jimmy Clausen hates me.

From the SEC, it looks like everyone picked correctly, with the only exception of Miss. State & Tennessee throwing a cog in the works for everyone (not me though). UGA showed great improvement with their win over Arkansas as they finally found a running game while the D held Arkansas to only 77 yards on the ground. Auburn builds on an unbelievable start, going 3-0 and beating West Virginia in a muddy brawl on the plains. The Tigers, managing only 400 yards of offense, won the game on D with 24 points coming off a +6 turnover margin. UGA will host Arizona State and Auburn will take a break with Ball State at home.

Way to find the ball guys.

This kid can fly.

So, without further delay, here are our overall standings for week three:

1. Gen.Stoopangle

2. OneHairyDawg

3. bulldog91 & Donalad Eason

5. Dutch

6. dawgsman81

7. aumaverick

8. Woman...do not accost me while I'm drinking! & SilverDawg1948

10. td_dawg

From the BNE Staff:

1. aumaverick

2. BFR

3. Bubba

4. Streit

5. Earl

6. Bulldawgjosh (So was week 2 a fluke? Way to go down like a cheerleader on prom night falling 30 spots to #33 this week and a 6-7 record.)

And new this week...our bottom feeder of the pool is MACJ with a 13-22 record. Well, you went 11-2 this week, so maybe that Magic 8 Ball is working but I'm thinking all signs say "don't count on it".

Remember to get your picks in for this week. Our key matchups this week feature Miami and Va. Tech, UNC and Georiga Tech, Cal and Oregon, Florida and Kentucky and my challenge pick of Indiana and Michigan. Good luck!

BNE Pick'Em Week 2

Week 2 of college football is over and what a great weekend of games! Four of our matchups came down to the wire causing a big shift in the points standing. Meeeechigan pulled an upset over #20 ranked Notre Dame 38-34, which, with USC's come-from-behind victory in the final seconds by the freshman QB in Columbus over Ohio State, has put Meeeechigan in the driver's seat of the Big 10. Once again, the Buckeyes and the sweater vest can't manage to beat a ranked oponent, what a surprise.

For UGA fans, man you guys need to step it up! Seriously, y'all should have lost that game. Statistically speaking, SUC beat UGA in the game in every category. Were it not for Garcia looking right instead of left, "happily ever after" would not be "the end" for the Dawgs. That being said, a win is a win, and UGA managed to pull it out after a much improved performance after the first lost to OK State. Speaking of which, WTF??! #5 Okie State lost to...Houston?! This is kick in the to UGA after a black eye last week. How embarassing.

In another upset, Tennessee lost to UCLA...again. Also, Alabama cruised to an easy win after looking rough in the 1st half to FIU. Meanwhile, Florida kept rolling against the men of Troy with an easy victory. On a side note, I watched this game and it wasn't all Florida's fault; Troy beat themselves. The men of Troy couldn't complete anything and kept getting slapped in the face...literally.

Not to sound partial here, but the best game of the weekend was Mississippi State and Auburn. Last year, this game was finished with a total combined score of 5. FIVE! Another interesting fact, neither coach from that game coached in this weekend's slugfest. Traditionally, this is a low-scoring affair between two SEC West defensive powerhouses. Not this time. Auburn smacked the western Bulldogs 49-24. Also, for the second week, Auburn piled up over 500 yards of offense, with two running backs, freshman Onterio McCalebb and Ben Tate, rushing for over 100 yards each. I don't care who you like, that's impressive! Keep an eye out next week if you like the run game.

So, based on the results from week 2, here are our leaders overall:
1. Gen. Stoopangle

2. Dutch
3. calgee & ecdawg

5. OneHairyDawg

6. DawgDai, td_dawg, ugaedgar,

9. bcdawg97, dawgsman81 & allyugadawg

Results from the BNE staff:
1. aumaverick
2. BFR

3. Bubba

4. Streit

5. Earl

6. BulldawgJosh (climbing out of the celler at #43 overall and the third best record this week!)

Remember to submit your picks for week 3. The big games this week will be the Mountain Men vs. Plainsmen, Queers vs. Steers, Cocky vs. Arrogant, Criminoles vs. Saints, and the Bees vs. A Mighty Wind. Good luck!

Plaque for the Alternates...

On August 26, 2009 the Bubba N Earl team established an elite pool for the top one percent of its readers. Its purpose was to provide a place to demonstrate the lost art of college football picks and to insure that the handful of men & women who participated were the best college football fans in the world. They succeeded. Today, many people call it just a college football pool. The readers call it: The 2nd Annual Bubba N Earl Pick'Em

So don't screw around with me. Y'all are a hell of an instinctive bunch of readers, maybe too good. I'd like to bust your butts but I can't. I got another problem here, I gotta have more people from this blog SIGN UP! I gotta do something here, I still can't believe it. I gotta give you your dream shot! I wanna send you up against the best. Every week you'll be competing against other hardcore SEC football fans. Just remember gentlemen, there are no points for second place...well, sort of. If you win enough points, you will be able to compete for the Top Gu...I mean BNE Trophy (actual trophy may vary). But just remember, if you screw up just this much, you'll be watching football with a bunch of rejects over at Florida State! So don't forget to sign up!
